Small Relays Matter Greatly to Vessel Safety
Small Relays Matter Greatly to Vessel Safety
In complex shipboard systems, auxiliary relays are compact yet serve as the "nerve endings" of control circuits. They are widely deployed across power distribution, main engine operation, deck machinery and automatic monitoring systems, undertaking core tasks including signal amplification, isolation protection and logic control.
Nevertheless, relays encounter vastly different operating conditions in various ship systems. Improper selection frequently becomes the root cause of potential safety hazards. DEGSON auxiliary relays cover five product series: DRPS, DRPB, DRPT, DRPE and DRPL, fully meeting all marine application requirements.
Power System
Millisecond-level rapid response is mandatory.
On ship power stations and distribution panels, relays perform tripping protection and signal transmission. Slight contact adhesion or arc ablation may result in protection failure and large-scale power outages.
Navigation & Communication
Relays act as signal routing for precision electronic equipment, requiring ultra-low and stable contact resistance. Under micro-current conditions, oxidized contacts will lead to intermittent or complete signal interruption.
Engine Room Environment
High temperature, high humidity, heavy salt spray and voltage fluctuations will easily cause coil overheating, poor core attraction, mechanical jamming or even burnout of relays.
How to Select the Right Auxiliary Relay?
For harsh marine working conditions, stick to the four key principles below:
-
1. Precise Parameter Matching
The coil voltage must match the loop power supply strictly; contact capacity shall be selected according to load characteristics (higher capacity is required for inductive loads). -
2. Superior Environmental Resistance
Products shall feature high protection performance, withstand wide temperature from -25℃ to +55℃ as well as marine vibration and shock, and with EMC resistance. -
3. Maintenance-friendly Structure
Plug-in type of relay with socket is recommended for easier replacement. -
4. Highly Stable Contacts
For low-current signal control scenarios (navigation and automatic systems), gold-plated contacts or double-contact structure are preferred to eliminate oxidation failure.
Safety navigation leaves no trivial matter. Every relay acts as a gatekeeper for maritime safety.
A well-chosen relay adds an extra safety lock to the vessel control system.
